About the Greater Ballarat region

The Greater Ballarat region forms the gateway between Western Victoria and Melbourne. Covering more than 12,000 square kilometres, the region includes the City of Ballarat, and the Golden Plains, Moorabool, Central Goldfields, Pyrenees and Hepburn shire councils. The area is diverse, ranging from peri-urban and regional centres to rural towns and communities. These include Ballarat, Bacchus Marsh, Avoca, Beaufort, Hepburn, Daylesford, Maryborough, Dunolly, Meredith and Rokewood.

For residents, the region caters to people's desire for a better quality of life including proximity to work, school, healthcare, family and friends; more affordable housing; and open space.

For businesses, the region provides similar benefits to metropolitan areas, without the hustle and bustle. Key industries include health, education, advanced manufacturing and visitor services.

Due to these and other opportunities, the region’s population is growing. We need immediate investment in critical services and infrastructure to support this growth and ensure everyone prospers.

GBAC is advocating for these priorities.
